National Stolen LR Register - Proposal from S3 Club
« on: January 17, 2008, 19:08:04 »
Frank from the s3/90-110 owners club is trying to establish a nationwide scheme to help Landy owners who have had their pride and joy pinched.

The scheme is as follows - if a member has his/her landy stolen, he/she reports it to their club/forum coordinator. The coordinator then immediately emails the details to all his/her club/forum members or posts on the forum. The coordinator also notifies the coordinators of the other clubs affiliated with the scheme and their coordinator then emails their members (or posts on the forum). This means that the many 1000s of landrover club/forum members - regardless of club affiliation - can be on the lookout for the missing vehicle in a very short time.

Apparently all Police authorities nationwide have been contacted, and those that have responded are in favour of the scheme. The only proviso they have raised is the promise that if the vehicle is subsequently found, that they be notified so that their officers can take the vehicle off their watchlist.

As the scheme is probably going to receive national publicity via landy magasines, news agency interviews etc, a sticker will be produced to be affixed to each member's landrover - hopefully to deter any casual/would-be thieves. Obviously, this is unlikely to deter professional ringing/stripping outfits, but its a start, yes?

This would involve small amount of time, and a minimal sticker cost (the figure of £1 is being considered at the moment), there shouldn't be any effort involved.

The thread discussing this is http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3120

If any admin are interested, can they contact Frank at:

That sounds like an excellent idea - might be even better if the sticker was personalised to the club? Say a standard shape/typeface but with the club name on it.

I believe the Series 2 Club already operates a similar scheme.  Worth contacting them about it maybe?

The S2 club have been contacted.

Correspondence can be directed to Frank at the S3 club info@thelandroverclub.co.uk  (I'm not a member of the S3 club but use their forum)

I think he's basically looking for forum/site owners to join in/sign up with the scheme and help promote it for their membership. The more forums and clubs that get involved, the more successful it may be.

Cheers

Good Idea - I would suggest a description with distinguishing marks highlighted to stop us reporting the wrong vehicle

It's a good idea, we need to stick together.

What annoys me though is that a lot of the theiving is done by, how can I put it, other enthusiasts (using the term loosely).
Blue,  1988  Range Rover 3.5 EFi with plenty of toys bolted on
Chuggaboom, 1995 Range Rover Classic
1995 Range Rover Classic Vogue LSE with 5 big sticks of Blackpool rock under the bonnet.

Why not suggest a Mud Club register :-k Such a scheme should not be limited to owners of Land Rovers :)
