Exmoor front seat retrim kit - HELP
« on: January 25, 2008, 21:14:42 »
Just received my order from exmoor trim to refurb the front outer seater in my 1995/96 110 csw. The seats are cloth but I wanted vinyl to retrim them with. I ordered the kit, which includes the covers and foams.

Trouble is the instructions seem to bare no relationship to my seat bases, the foams are different shape. I don't seem to have any 'pins' that are supplied in kit my cover where clipped around the base of teh frame and at the rear there is a flat bar which is rivited on. The foams do not sit deep enough into the bases, and I can't see how the cover can possible be big enough.

I have now trashed my seats to discover this.

Is there some other seat kit I should of ordered? who fault it this? waited ages for these things to arrive and they are useless. Too miffed, and have to wait till monday to speak to exmoor trim.

sorted now. Yep bases totally different in that they use spring clips at the base to hold  on the covers where as normal seat use rubber bead hammered into a channel. Went to the fanstatic  guys West Wiltshire Landrovers, and they sold me a set of front seats and frames in fair condition for £50.00. Haver used the exmoor trim kit on them and they look and feel great now

So now have a full seat of defender front seats/frames to get rid off with tatty cloth pattern covers.  Set of good condition foams, and fair condition pair of dark grey vinyl covers.

Have built up a pair of seats for spare or to sell from the 'good' parts I have.

I figured a way to get the beaded vinyl covers on to the non bead style bases.

The rear flap is held in place by a flat bar, this first has to be removed by drilling out the rivets.

Next the spring clips can be pushed off and the old cover removed.

The foam can be replaced now by gluing to the the frame as per normal.

To fit new or second hand covers of the 'beaded' style the bead first has to be removed.

This is done by cutting the stitching and removing the string. This gives an extra length to the skirt which allow it to be pulled over the frame and clipped into place (first gluing the middle of cover to foam as per normal)

Once cover is fitted the rear flap can be pulled over pegs and held in place by the flat bar using new pop rivets.
