grand cherry not starting
« on: February 01, 2008, 09:47:11 »
my friends 1998 grand was parked up last night today it wont start,

when you try to start it it turns over as normal but doesnt fire up,

when the ignition key is turned to the 2nd position the amp guage and the fuel gauge doesnt move and the check engine light doesnt come on everything else seems to work,

weve tried more fuel, and the ecu check doesnt work by turning the ignition twice like it should,

any ideas before its towed to a garage down the road ?

How did you fit it,????I had a look at mine and I cant even get a hand up to wher it is from underneath.Looks like the engine/gearbox needs to be moved to get in there?or do you go in from above?
did you get one from a main dealer or independent parts place?Any advice would be apreciated as mine still runs cr@p on petrol after replacing o2 sensor.
Thanx.

disconnect the front prop, you need extension bars on a small socket about 18" long to make the job easier

Sorry for the delay been on holiday then away working, to remove the crank shaft sensor we used an 11 mill socket on 3 extension bars to undo the bolt (be careful not to drop the bolt and protective plate as it lands on the front axel and is a pig to get out) when the bolt was undone we squeezed arm and hand down the right hand side of the engine to the bell housing with a bit of blind fiddling we managed to get the old unit out fitting was the opposite of removal just more fiddly and the right PITA.

We used a genuine jeep part from a main dealer approx £94.
