Houndkirk Last Night
« on: February 20, 2008, 12:45:20 »
I took the Scouts out on a hike last night and came up over Houndkirk. It's an oportunity to teach them about mapwork etc, plus a bit about the effects of light polution from towns and cities. As we walk towards Houndkirk from Burbage there is normall a huge orange glow but last ight NOTHING!.

The fog which started just east of Houndkirk road was so thick it blotted out all signs of habitation, not even a glow from the street lights - it was like the city had been turned off .

Oh, and the temperature up there last night was -8 deg C :-.

The age range has changed so Ventures has been split into Explorers and Network, with a split at age 18. Unfortunately I don't know any of the Woodseats crowd.

Wish I'd had a good camera last night - the moon shining on the fog was amazing.
