Coolant Smell

I had a coolant leak a while ago, one of the hoses came off one of the t-pieces that fed the vapouriser (LPG).

Consequently there was a smell of evaporating coolant for a while after the repair, which I assumed would go away in time.

It didn't and it's been months since and I couldn't see a leak anywhere, but every time I parked up there was the unmistakeable stink of evaporating coolant!  The radiator was a new one too!

The difference in coolant level wasn't noticeable in the expansion tank either, lots of scratching head I can tell you.

Found it!

Some may remember I binned the second set of twin Kenlowes after they seized for the second time, and put on the viscous fan again, and then that I needed to replace that AND a cracked radiator.

Well, the copper sensor for the Kenlowes was still in the radiator top hose, after the radiator had been replaced (why they put it back with no Kenlowe system on the vehicle I don't know), and this was weeping coolant, just enough for one drip to drop onto the hot oil cooler pipes when the engine was parked up and switched off, creating the stink.

Problem quickly solved, yes I know, not exactly a major problem, but I was worried I can tell you.

The heating up would make the smell stronger, so you would be forgiven for thinking that coolant was pouring out.

you should have seen the amount of earth I had to dig out of the valley between my heads when I was changing the gaskets recently... couple of inches easily...  :oops: :-#

Think I'll be more generous with the pressure washer now I have a shiny new valley gasket in place!  8-[

thatl work for the first few washes lol! im band from using the local garages jet wash, it clogged up there drains last time!!!!!
