Quote from: "Andy the Landy"
I was thinking of joining at the playday in May :D  Dont know if mine will be back on road by then as it needs 100quid just for the front end parts, then labour for the bits I cant/wont attempt, couple of front tyres, tax, insurance, MOT - the list goes on     Considering selling it as it is, and trying to persuade SWMBO into trading in the Focus for a Bus or Rangie :D

:( Yep thats whats happened to me the last month or so tax,ins bills etc, it all mounts up, and now im trying to pay it back so ive got money to spend in the next 2 or 3 months.
As for selling the Landy, without any tax or mot you wont get much for it, and if you do sell it SWMBO does let you get a Rangie youll be starting over again mods etc. How bad is the Landy and how much work is required for mot.
Saying that though you could pick up an early 4 door rangie for around £400.00 with a bit of an mot and tax, but at this price it will probrbly need welding etc etc..
If in first you dont suceed, try second....
If it aint broke, your not trying ard enough....

Regards MIKE.

Definate for MOT is dumb irons, track rod ends, so would probably renew track rod and drag link aswell. Needs new engine but could get this one through MOT. Got spare set of road wheels with tyres on but they are poo off-road. If I traded in the Focus I'd probably be looking at a Disco on a 96 or 97 plate

You see this is what i mean i dont know what dumb irons are and as for the track rod ends i did my Rangie ones not long ago and had to resort to useing burning gear to heat them up before they unscrewd, i wonder if good second hand ones will do, or have you already looked into this. Ill have a word DPG the only problem is i no longer rent space of him now in his garrage ( thats how bad the money situation is ) so he might think it a bit cheeky if i turn up with your link and track rod bits so can fit new track rod ends etc. How bad is the enginge smoke is it an mot failure do you think.
If you can ide for the Disco, just depends what SWMBO thinks. :(
Wish i could help you out mate.

Thats the best way to do it, hes got the tools and knowledge, just hang in there for now. I know how frustrateing it is..... :(

Do you remember Andy and Paul in there Landys, well they still rent space of DPG and Andy is very knowledgeable when it comes to older Landys as hes owned and rebuilt quite a phew in the past.If hes there when you bring yours down hell proberbly help you out. :D

:D Mine only had a 2" lift kit fitted and decent set of Diamond Backs plus an su carb conversion. And it beat my Rangie when DPG had it esspecially in the mud and in tight situations 9 very light compared to Rangie ). But not very good for side slopes etc, and when greenlaneing it would not sit the ruts properly as other 4x4s are wider tracked, so Suzuki kept jumping out of the ruts every now and again. Good on play sites climb anything with su fitted. :D

Mike - the Dumb Irons are the front chassis legs that the leaf spring attaches too. The old ones have been plated and at Whitworth on Boxing Day the ice breaking didnt do them any favours, so they need cutting off and new ones welding on, was going to replace the track rod and ends and drag link aswell as they probably suffered damage causing the front tyres to scrub

 AARRGGHH!! i see what you mean now, are you getting replacement ones or just have them replated ( welded up ) again.
Yep definatley needs to be at the garrage for that one, up on the ramp job for that one. Whats the rear cross member like and rear hangers are they o,k. Can be a [!Expletive Deleted!] sometimes just getting the bolts out of the leaf springs, especially if there std bushes ( tend to weld themselfs to the bolt ).Nothing to worry about DPG would soon have them out.For a bit of a lift you could always fit Milatary hangers that are fitted as std on Lightweights, thatll give you an instant 1" to 1"1/2 lift, just a thought.

Had new rear crossmember 2 years ago, along with new LWB spring hangers, rest of chassis is in good nick as the MOD preserve them pretty well  Gonna go for new ones (better be safe than sorry). I re-timed the engine to cure black smoke so should get another 12 months out of it, but its not doing it any good being stood on drive and only being fired up every couple of days
