V8 starting problems now nothing..... FIXED
«

Right then, i've been "at it" all day, thought i had fixed it, went for a test run and now nothing, right the problem,
struggle to start while cranking, its cranking over nice and quick and no problems there but wont start, i have put on new leads, not dis cap, new rotor arm, new spark plugs, then if i time it right and let go of the key fast (flick) she fire and run perfect. and have no problems at all, if i bump start it it fires first time perfect and again no problems. that was my first problem, now, i went for a good run cuz i did a few jobs new oil and the likes ran perfect for about 30 minutes and up and down hills round corners no problem, BUT THEN, i thought everything was perfect and going down a long hill and it seem to die , but with it being a steap hill i didnt really notice it had died till trying to get up the other side where i found that engine wasnt running. got a good friend to recover me and i tried on and off for about 20 minutes on the way home to bump start it but nothing, not even a back fire nothing. checked over once got home and theres plent of fuel but no spark, new coil tried but still nothing. i think its related to the starting problem mention earlier. Now its dark, VERY windy and FREEZIN so call it a day and thought i'd see what you guys and gals thought?

Dodgy earth perhaps, the not sparking whilst cranking makes me think that. Perhaps then the earth has given up the ghost completely.

If the amp has failed I'd suggest you rig up an earth from one of those littl ebolts back to the battery, poor earth is opne reason they fail.

think i'll do that! th eold one must of been on its way out for a period of time, because i soon as i put this newer one on by christ what a difference! runs far smoother start at a touch of the key, pulls better just 100% better than before. so megga chuffed! so anything i can do to help maintain that gota be worth it.

You fitted a new amp unit then? was it a genuine and how much was it? might be worth doing the same if it's made that much difference.

i think i was just VERY VERY lucky and found a belting second hand one off another v8 i had laying around! but honest swer to god it made a MASSIVE and i mean A HUGEEEEEEEE difference......... engine used to take 2 / 3 seconds to start now like half a second and bang into life,, so much smoother, more crisp and responsive. feels like a different engine and i was happy with the way it ran before so you can imagen how happy i am now!!!!!! I know Paddocks are selling a complete dizzy for £125 plus the vat ( guessed price) which isnt bad at all.
if that didnt fix it i was rady to rip the V8 out and put the 300tdi in.... no word of a lie.... now i's so happy with the V8

Then it might be more economical too.
Just one thought, whilst doing the dizzy did you alter the timing at all?

before had the problemi timed her up cuz there was something not quite right, like she was missin, but she always went very well so thought nothin of it really.... and the timin was bob on, so now that i have had the problem and fitted the new part i have done exactly the same thing but before i timed her up i just got the impression that something has changed and for the better even when the timin was miles off it just sounded so much better and started so much better and quicker........ just everything was and now is better...... have fitted a negative to one of those tiny bolts tonight too :) so hopefully thats sorted fo good.....
