Discovery front bumper mods

The front bumper lower edge on my L/Reg 200TDI is already cracked and bodged so I was thinking of taking the lower skirt off. Also this would solve the problems of towing eyes and steering gaurd.This would leave the bumper ends too long of coarse, are there any suggestions other than cutting them off. Being short of pennys  for my toy I cant afford a nice winch and bumper just yet. :tappity:

If you cut the end caps down they look fine - I don't know if the 200TDI ones are the same as the 300TDI but on the 300 there's a line in the moulding that works very well as a cutting guide. I just sawed along that, tidied up with a file, and bolted them back on.

i have taken the plastic lower skirt off my bumper this weekend. but i cut the end caps along the same line as the lower edge of the metal bumper. i think it looks a lot better.

Thats what I did with my old 200 a while back.  Was a rough rush job and looked OK to me!

I just used the lines moulded in same as everyone else..................  Couple of qhick cuts with the jig-saw and bolt back on, job done...........

 8)Thanks folks the picture gives me a good idea of what I should aim to achieve. I found an air hacksaw in the tool store at work this weekend, that should eat plastic quite well me thinks.  I am thinking on the lines of Paddocks steering guard but I will see if my trip to N/York's this weekend  breaks any thing before I make any moves. I need a battery tomorrow, tightening the alternator belt didn't help the slightly sluggish starting, flat battery at 5.30 am today

Get a steering guard with recovery points/jacking points built in if you can. I bought the Bearmach aluminium one (was worried about the weight of a steel one, daft though that sounds!) and then had to do some chopping and bending to add Jate rings later on. It wasn't too tricky but buying a guard with these things built in is easier.

i scapped the two silly little screws that hold on the bumber end cap, drilled out the holes and replaced with an M6 stainless nut and bolt.. is much sturdier now...

Stop press. dont use a air hacksaw.

get a nice sharp brand new stanley knife blade and use 1 blade per end cap. leaves no rough edges and works a treat. I did this to mine and Dr Ed's on here. So much easier.

I bought my truck then took it up a lane behind my house and the valance hit on the first rock I found so I went home and cut it off freehand with a 1mm cutting disc worked well and took 5 mins very neat :D trucks changed a bit since then though :twisted:

When re-aliging the front bumper last Monday I had to take the valance off, and while it was off I took the corner bumpers of to see what it would look like if they were cut down. Looked quite cool, but thought theres no point as we have a bull bar and still would have the same clearance as before because the bull bar is as low as the valance. We're not planning on taking the bumper off so just chucked it all back on.

I cut mine down a few weeks ago now looks gd, i just did the quick job with the hacksaw, is all gd gives me that bit of clearence i needed
