how do you mean the catches are different,  do they are located in a different place or they are different in design?? and if it is just design is it a straight swap of the catches?

Not sure, I havn't looked har but I bought a GRP tailgate with external hinge and the catches are very different, they are in the same place though but I think they have buffers to stiffent he taigate aperture byt holding the tailgate at the sides.

Old type have cam operated metal bars which lock either side, while the newer type has catches either side which lock onto pins (same as door striker pins). I would guess there would be a lot of work in a conversion but I'm sure it could be done.

I have a spare 93/L reg  lower tailgate if your interested.

It will need painting to match your car as its will be in primer, I'm just repairing a small dent in the top at the moment.

I was going to put it on ebay next week when its ready, so if you want it make me an offer.
