1997 disco wheels on a rrc and defender??
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:43:13 »
Hi again

I need to know if the LR Disco alloys will fit the RRC axle and the Defender axle as my Efi has one of each axles on it? :-.  :-.

The rear axle is original 1986 and the front is the Defender one , but I don't know how old it is.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers all
Rgds  David

If the wheels are off a td5 they will not fit

If the wheels are off a 300 tdi they will fit

Hello there,

RRC, Discovery 1 & most Defenders axles have the same wheel fitment,
I have heard of a bit of filing needed on some alloys but technically they are all the same.

The problem arises with the second generation P38 RR and the series II Discos, these two models wheels are not interchangable with the earlier RRC/Disco 1/ Defenders.

Cheers,

Hang on there.

RRC and Disco 1 have the same axles and all LR alloys will fit, not problems.

200 TDi defenders will NOT take LR alloys without work, the hubs do not sit straight on the flanges and the studs are wrong, the end of the halfshaft sticks through the rims.

Add to that, ONLY Defender alloys are rated to take the weight of a 110, so RRC alloys are Illegal on a 110.

Now, you have a Defdender axle on a RRCnso thsi doesn't apply to you, but if the studs on the front axle (Defender) do not have eithe "-" or a triangle stamped into the ends of them then they were not designed to accept alloy wheels.

Hiya,
Thanks for replies.

Cannot see any markings on ends of studs should they be easy to see  or should I get the wire wool out?

Relatively easy to see, but what Defender did they come from? you should be able to see some on the RRC axle to compare to though.

Hi  Makes sense, but will both axles accept aftermarket rims as in modulars, eight-spokes, etc or not?  :?

Modulars, 8 spokes, Wolf rims AFAIK, Defender rims, Mach 5s, Disco steels, all should fit.
