terra firma
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:11:24 »
Have seen that frogs island are doing a +2" terrafirma lift kit for under 250, does anybody have these fitted and if so how do they compare with the likes of OME?

This seems like a good price?

Well i've got the terrafirma kit on mine. I paid £199 inc vat from the Total off road show. I must say they are a great bit off kit. Well i had the 2 inch lift kit with the front springs rated for a winch even thow i have not got one yet :(. The shocks seem alot stiffer than the pro-comp too

You can't compare £199 kits to £550 kits
Its like comparing ford's to Bently's
In life, you get what you pay for.
If you want the best it'll cost you
If your not fussed but like to save money, its a good deal for £199
Check out the Dampers though

Hi folks!

Yes Jake, I've got the Terrafirma kit... if I choose again I'd stick to a britpart/bearmach and procomp kit for about the same money (£220-ish).  OME was a bit out of my budget, unfortunately!  (There's always Scorpion too, ay Jake?!!)

Not impressed with the Terrafirma kit, they asked about what bolt-on bits I had, what the car was used for etc, so they could match the springs to my requirements, but I find the rear springs rediculously stiff, the back end jumps/crashes over the smallest of speed humps unless I drop to 1st gear... makes me wince every time.  As muddydisco says, my front springs were requested to be rated for a winch (already have HD bumper), but have only given a touch over 1 inch lift (and the springs are fitted the right way round!), and thats with no winch!  And the shocks with the kit are only standard length (despite being told they are longer... the front ones appear to be about 10mm longer than standard!).

The result is that the suspension travel is hindered due to the shock reaching its limit... I don't do crazy off-roading, but it was enough to really irritate me... pro comp +2" shocks have now arrived to replace the terrafirma ones (probably good shocks for a standard car, but useless with the lift!).

Just my opinions, of course (although a fellow member of another club im in has the same opinion, I have since found out!  Thats on a Defender tho.)

All in all, if you want a cheap and cheerful kit, I know an awful lot of people who are more than happy with the bearmach/pro-comp kits available... that'd be my choice... not happy with the Terrafirma (and I don't think they have any greater choice of spring rates than other kits, as long as you use a supplier who offers them all).

All the best,
Nat

TBH I'd advise plus 3" for the back as they will fit even a standard car and give more droop travel plus there is less piston rod exposed to go rusty.

In terms of rate and length then terrafirm range of springs should be the same as OME springs (assuming the data on the internets correct), so if you just changed from terrafirm springs to OME your not necisserily going to get an improvement in ride quality.

Also the OME dampers don't have much more travel than a standard LR damper (about 0.5" more) though do appear to have a slightly longer overall length to better suit lifted suspension.

So what are these?, chopped liver
You can get 40mm longer than standard if you speak to real OME specialists
