Spokesperson Needed - Urgent
« on: February 08, 2005, 10:02:12 »
I've been contacted via the 4x4 Prejudice website by BBC television.  The Politics Show is staging a live debate and report on London traffic issues, and on the 4x4 campaign...

"The programme will be broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday at 1pm. It goes out live from City Hall near Tower Bridge. We are hoping to have the boss of Transport for London in the studio at the top of the programme - he will hopefully be answering criticisms of the congestion charge - we are getting actor Tom Conti to do a report on his concerns of the scheme.

For the second part we would like to put a report together on your campaign against 4x4 prejudice. After the 3 minute report we will come back to a live discussion in the studio between yourselves and Alliance Against urban 4x4s.

I would need to film the report this week. It would involve around 3 hours of filming."

Now, unfortunately I can't make it, but I think we need to have some representation there if possible.   So... if you fancy being on Telly, can present the facts of our campaign and would like to go head-to-head with the Alliance...  please get in touch... I need to give the BBC guys an answer ASAP.

Sounds good and I will make sure that we are watching it.

We do need to be careful about the candidate that is selected to ensure that they are watertight - for example if the person who goes on owns a cayenne then its game over isn't it!

Would suggest a Diesel Discovery 7 seater owner who uses it as a daily drive but also needs it for its full capabilities.

Just an update.

I've been chatting with the Beeb, and the immediate issue is that they would like to talk to a person in London, using their 4x4 for every-day stuff.  They will need to give up a couple of hours of their time for filming... this is for the short report.

This person doesn't have to do the live debate, but will need to be clear on the arguments and able to express them on camera.  (not live)

Please feel free to post the content of this thread to other forums, etc.    It would be great to be able to show a strong and sane response.

The TV people seem friendly, and are looking for a balanced viewpopint, so you won't get hijacked or demonised.

What we need is someone who uses their car on an every day basis, as their family vehicle and their play toy, so that it justifies (to the anti's) having it!!!!
We also need to get loads of statistics in, cos we all know how Sian's are flawed!!!

It makes no difference if the vehicle gets used off road or not...  That's the whole point isn't it ??

A "Chelseas Tractor" is just as welcome as an off-roader... in many respects, moreso... these are the people being most aggressively targeted by the antis and those for whom we are supposed to be showing support.

For the film item, it really needs to be someone who lives in London

Ok I'll hold my hand up

Live in London, drive a V8 Discovery, no kids to take on school run though.
Use it everyday to drive to work (6am) distance of aprox 3 miles.
Have been known to take it off-road.

Not sure I'd be much help,
Cheers.

But a V8 on LPG is about the cleanest vehicle on the road, less NOx than diesel or petrol, lower CO2, increased engine life and LPG is a waste gas, 40% comes from refining petrol and the rest from natural gas supllies (also as a by-product).  If you've got remoulds on then you're recycling tyres too!
Safer for pedestrian (yes, safer) and takes up less tarmac than a Jag, I notice when I parked next to one the other day!
