My rangie with 35" tyres = problems
« on: April 01, 2008, 17:39:57 »
Hi guys,
for those that dont know i've recently fitted 35" tyres to my rangie.

All ready i've bust a front half shaft.

I thought i'd broke a rear one the other day as there was a big snap noise and only the front wheels were turning.
I've just pulled one rear shaft and i heard a clunk type rattle as i pulled ,nice one i thought,it must be this one.As i drew it out there was nothing wrong with it.
So i proceeded to take out the other side to find that one is ok also.
So my question really is,has the rear diff blown ?? :? And is it possible ?

The diff could well be damaged. Certainly I would pull it out and inspect it.

If the rar prop is turning and the wheels are not then it's the diff.  Put a ARB/ATB/4 pin diff back in.

aggre with the above, but i'm gob smacked you have broken this lot, are you an aggressive driver? i run ARBs front and rear and do alot of VERY tricky off roading and the likes and touch would never broken a think running standard genuine drive train, check and adjusst back lash and the likes in the diff, make sure things are well maintained / serviced,

Hi guys,
Pulled the diff, and it was well and truely blown to bits.New one in,and im 4 wheeling again   :D
I'll put some pics up later.
Im not an aggressive driver ,but at the time i was trying to go over a large concrete step ,approx 2'.Non aggresively .
I had got over it before but on my second attempt whilest trying to shove the front end up the vertical lump, the back just poped.

Out of interest are these 10 spline or 24 spline you are busting?

I'm wondering if that's whay you are killing diffs not halfshafts.

Spare 24 spline axle on a car I'm breaking if you want to come and get it.
