Engine Conversion - where and how much?
« on: April 07, 2008, 07:38:59 »
hi, i've got a 3.5 v8, with a santana box, but am thinking about getting a diesel put because of cost and the fact i can't go through water when off roading. Was stuck for 1 1/2 last sunday because of it. I've looked around but can't find anywhere close ish to home (hinckley). Just wondering if anyone knows of any garages that do it and for how much, roughly. And what parts do i need to source to get the job done (apart from the engine)?

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved.

Nene Valley Overland at Peterborough will be able to do it, not that cheap though but a quality outfit.

A V8 can be waterproofed for wading though, various kits on the web to protect the dizzy and plug leads etc. V8's are fabulous engines, it would be cheaper to go down this route and you get to keep that dreamy burble  :D

you will need to move the engine mounts once the engine is out.

Just put a Jappy engine in it

Seriously there are cheaper options than a tdi which are much more robust !

I have an Isuzu in my 110 with a Santana box, goes very well, never misses a beat, tows well, gets 35mpg and will cruise over Shap at 70mph. Never have any probs in water either.

But there again I do like Jappy Diesels it's something they are very good at.
