latest additions to my disco

well thats my snorkel fitted and the A bar and spotlights, although since taking the picture  Ive removed the lower spoiler and trimmed the bumper end caps aswell.

welll thats my disco now on mud tyres :)    got a set of insa turbo dakar on it now  and fitted my light bar, just neeed to get it wired up

Time for an update, got my mud tyres  fitted and are fantastic offroad   , light bar fitted and wired up, trimmed the end caps on the bumper and took the silly spoiler off.

I'm in the middle of making some rock sliders and a removable tow bar as I'm fed up of the one thats on doing plough impressions, and got a set of 2" lift springs to fit

that light bar cost the grand sum of zilch  got it off a workmate who took it off his rangerover as he was  putting it back into roadtrim

and another addition was fitted today  was passing craddocks  so popped in for quick nose round   and to get a new air filter  and ended up coming out with a pair of diff gaurds and a pair of jate rings aswell  and then spent  2 hours this afternoon fitting them

well as I'm not going to billing this weekend as I'm on call    :'(

I decided to start on making my rock sliders     had a  few lengths of 60x 60mm  box section and some 60 x 30 mm  angle, then had a visit off my mate  from round the corner who was  in his  skip truck  with skip full of steel on the back so had  arummage and found some  bits of tube with bends on and some straights.
So after doing a bit of measuring  I got the welder and grinder out  and 2 hours later this  is the result, just got to make the mountings to the body out riggers,

It will also be interesting to see what people start doing to the TD5 disco when they start to come within the price bracket of weekend laners.

Would have thought its not far off now.

The old 200TDI's seem to be dying left right and center from tinworm in the bodyshell. You can pick up MOT failures for under £400 at the moment. They have gone like the RRC did a couple of years back.

300TDI are not that far behind the 200TDI.

But the TD5 with ACE and everything is a different kettle of fish as far as modifying is concerned.

I don't think the P38 will ever be very popular choice as weekend laners as they are so troublesome even just used as Chelsea tractors let alone anything involving mild abuse!
1996 Discovery 300TDi Affectionately known as Clover. 
Cooper Discover STT 33/12.50/R15, a 2" body lift off chassis. H/D springs with 50mm platform spacers on the rear. Nothing on the front as they foul the shocks :-) 11" travel rough country shocks and mountings with dislocating spring cones,  adjusted wheel arches, safari snorkel. H/D rear bumper, demountable drop plate,. H/D steering guard, QT diff guards.
tree sliders, Split charge running twin Optima's, spotlight bar with 4 whoppers on it, H/D winch bumper, 12,000lbs winch,  A bar with 2 50w mini spotlights, brownchurch full length roof rack. 2 work lights.CB,
Fine English engineering modified to work!

I've only seen one P38A off roading, they'd be very capable due to the air suspension but as you say I'm not sure I'd trust one not to fall apart on a lane! Then again as they become cheaper and cheaper I think some people will be tempted - the surviving examples are probably the better ones by now.

I suspect a lot of older Disco 2s will be passed on to laning and replaced by something newer as the main family car, certainly that's how my Disco came to me (parents cast-off). That said, the post-2001 examples won't be as popular due to the £400 road tax now levied on them.

funny you mentioning P38's   the local garage owner has one that hes kitting out as an off road toy, hes took the V8 though and fitted a300tdi, and also took all the airbags off and fitted coils instead

If you could make the airbags work reliably and bin the auto gearbox (personal preference) then I'd say a 4.6 Vogue would make a pretty comfortable laning vehicle  :lol:

I'd want to keep the airbags as they give the benefits of a suspension lift but with the ability to squeeze under a 2m height barrier when needed.

had today off work so decided to fit my rock sliders,  :lol:


after removing the plastic things wasnt to chuffed to find  the dreaded rust bug had been chomping through my sills, so spent an hour patching them up and then another hour on the other side

still my sliders are now on and rather fetching they look , pictures to follow  at the weeekend

been busy this afternoon picked up a pair of heavy duty 2" lift  rear springs ,not that old for a tenner, at a car boot sale  came home  and decided that as it was nice I would fit them.
I was amazed that all the bolts on the spring retainers came undone  and the anti roll bar mounting bolts came undone, I knew the shock bolts would come undone as I only fitted them in march ,took less than 2 hours .

next big job is to swap over my front axle casing as its getting a bit thin on the diff casing and one of the panhard rod mountings has come away from the casing,before I do that job though I will get a set of trackrod ends, some new shocks and 2" lift springs and replace the turrets and rings aswell
