Hit Car + Drive Off = Me Mad
« on: April 11, 2008, 22:19:13 »
Someone has hit Beckys new Ibiza on the front near side and driven off...

Neighbour saw it happen. As soon as they hit it, they turned their lights off so she could not get the registration..

Silver car, given the amount of paint on the front of it.

It really really annoys me... She saved for that for years, and looks after it really well - now someone has mashed the front bumper in.

I want her to go though the insurance, but she has a £300 excess.....

Life sucks sometimes it really does.

Should i get a crime number from the Police?

I suppose they have knowingly driven away from an accident.....

Yep, hit and run they have left the scene of an accident! Ring the police and tell them!
If you dont, and you later decide to claim on the insurance it may look a little strange when you try and get a crime number ;)

Cheers

Bar stewards!!!!!

A bit of detective work sometimes doesn't go amiss. If they smashed their own lights/left paint, have a wander around the vicinity. If they were so worried about being spotted chances are they are local.

Doesn't the motor insurance bureaux cover this? Hit and Run is classed as an incident involving an uninsured driver

It only covers uninsured losses which might not include the excess.

As for the car, try the local pub carpark on a Sat night

Hi Mark

First off, it may be worth pursuing MIB for the excess - I think that I had some luck with a similar incident but that was about 18 years ago.  Mind you, the toe rags had simply broken into the local Ford dealer, got a set of keys and driven out through the window so it was fairly obvious that there was no insurance...

Chips Away...
I used them for damage from motorway debris which caused paint damage to bumper, bonnet and grille and they were fantastic.

However, my wife recently scratched her Freelander 2 and it worked out cheaper to put it into LR local bodyshop as they have a minimum charge per panel.

All the best with getting the damage sorted.
