300 tdi rear bumper size..
« on: April 18, 2008, 15:51:54 »
Hi all

As some of you know i had a bump in the disco a while back, now the  insurance have said I can change the rear bumper .

Now the question. ;)
Is the 300tdi bumper the same size as a 200tdi and are the fittings the same?? as I fancy getting a 300 with the extra lights in the bumper to use as extra reversing lights.

Cheers Lee...

Apart from the light cut outs the 200 bumper is a straight swop
The end caps look different and the nobbly step hangs over the rear face more but other wise, the same

Ive got a 300 and found the bulbs go regular with laning as the back of the light units are open to the elements, Im possibly thinking of changing the other way

Well the 200 bumper on mine just needs Paint and if you want it your welcome to it foc :D

I'm fitting the 300 bumper (all steel aftermarket) so I can fit spots in the holes to use as mega reversing lights . along with the work lamps

I live in a very narrow street in the village and have to reverse out and down a hill (60 mtrs) every morning ,In the winter it's sooooo dark the standard lights just don't work :(

I bought pair of wakeboard tower lights off eBay and thought as they are all cast metal and sealed for use on boats they should survive inside the back bumper .

and because they are oval I'm making a couple of plates out of stainless with oval holes to fit the rectangle shaped holes

Ah but then you'll have problems with the ECU, it'll expect that there are two pairs of rear indicators. The solution is to bury the second set inside the rear quarter panels.
I was lucky, my truck was one of the ones with just one set in the bumper, so I swapped the position to the rear quarters by buying a set of 200TDi clusters.
The answer to your orginal question is Yes, the fittings are exactly the same, I swapped my original 300TDi bumper with pastic end caps that I kept loosing and lights that kept breaking for a nice 200TDi style heavy duty all in one bumper from DiscoParts.

I dont have to reverse the same distance as you but i do have to reverse up my drive (40m) and line the nearside wheels up along a grass edge.
Wired straight into the reverse lights via a fuse
Works a treat

Thats the idea ;)

I've used work lamps to reverse before but I found they don't light up the road close to the car they just cast a shadow ten feet from the car thats why I want them lower down in the bumper :D

You kidding, there really bent out of shape
After a laning session i get my foot on them and ..... reshape them again
I will be moving them to the tailgate soon, i just need to test fit a 35" tyre to make sure i dont block the sockets
