Windscreen Chip repairs
« on: May 12, 2008, 20:04:53 »
Just a word of caution.

I recently had a chip repaired in a supermarket car park and was advised that as I'm fully comp with NFU I would have to pay nothing.

They've changed their mind now and want £99.87 for the privilege and have threatened me with legal action to recover the money.  The first letter they sent me said my insurance company would send me a cheque and I should send the same amount to them, checked with NFU and they don't operate in that way. Letter sent to the repair company explaining this with my policy number, agents details and asked them to contact NFU direct.

Approx 1 month later sent Notice of Court Action, by a different company using the same address, as payment had not been received, when I contacted the company they had the wrong policy number and was told they would look into and call me back in a couple of days. Sent them an e-mail confirming our conversation but no contact from them in over a week.

I've sent a copy of everything to NFU to see if it can be sorted, because I'm not giving them any money. If they expect me to pay I reckon it's obtaining money by deception and becomes a police matter. It seems this company is one of four that NFU has problems with, all based in the Birmingham area, and all charging approximately twice the rate of other companies doing similar repairs.

If you want a chip repaired contact your insurance company and they might send someone out to your vehicle to do the repair or use a reputable company, don't make the mistake I did and let someone with no signwriting on the van or gazebo near your motor.

IIRC only National Windscreens are the official supplier to NFU..

Though Autoglass and RAC Autowindscreens will do it too.

Any others, yep, beware...
(I used to manage a Windscreen company )
