Spring on my rear diff?

This may be a stupid question to anyone with a bit more mechanical knowledge than me but what is the spring on the top of the rear diff of my Jimny for and what is it attached to because I get a loud click when I go from one side of the articulation to the other and I am beginning to believe this spring is the cause!

I guess what I'm asking is does the spring need to be there or can I remove it?

Any help on this matter would be appreciated and if theres an obvious reason for the spring can the ridicule be kept to a minimum please!

The spring is part of the compensation valve system for your rear brakes, basically the rear of your Jimny is light so only a small amount of pressure is needed to apply the rear brake before they lock up. With the boot loaded the vavle transfers more braking force to the rear brakes to aid stopping. With the Car boot enmpty there should only just be tension on the spring, ie the slack 'just' taken up. If you have lifted the Jimny this should be adjusted.
