Anyone in the Luton Area?
« on: May 19, 2008, 10:47:56 »
Guys, I'm taking a family greenlaning in a few weeks time near Luton, as a birthday gift for their son. I intend to do a spot of laning in the morning then finish off at Devil's Pit in the afternoon (may see some of you there!).

As it's out of my patch I wanted to try and get a heads up from any locals regarding what lanes are available, which are good, which to avoid etc.

I will of course be doing the whole ROW office thing, to check for TRO's etc, but I need to have a few ideas before I go there.

any help you could give would be gratefully recieved.

MODS: I did try posting this in the Greenlaning section a little while ago to no response, so I'm hoping that it'll be a little more visible here.

All the best

Thanks Stuuvy....

Ah well... looks like it'll be the pit all day then!

So much for showing the difference between greenlaning & off roading!

Know of a couple of byways nr Woburn Sands that we did quite recently  :)
Is that too far out the way?
Will double check them with Hissy then let you know.
Plenty of stuff on Mmap but local knowledge would be handy if you
haven't got time to check everything yourself with the Row office.
Isn't there a regional rep for that area??

Thanks Landybabe... should have thought of asking a woman... they know the answer to everything after all...!

**Fetches Coat... Opens Door!

Thought I'd get a few replies in here but Luton must be a bit of an Area 51 for Mud Clubbers!

I'm not looking for much, just enough to fill a short morning and give them a flavour before blowing their minds at Devil's pit!

Like you say, local knowledge is the key... I'll have another motor with me so recovery will not be a problem but it's no good if it's a wide lfat gravel track now is it...?! Some nice tight lanes like you & Nikki dragged us down on Sunday would be perfect!

LEt us know what you find and I'll owe you another beer at the next meet!

Sorry, Skybum, but ATM we are vehicle-less (MOT run out a couple of weeks ago and vehicle spent the last month and a half without steering) so I haven't yet had a chance to explore the area. I tried finding some lanes for lurch_917 a while back, but I drew a blank. All the 4x4ers I know in this area either go to the Devil's pit or go laning far afield (Cambs, Herts, etc...)

I shall try and dig a bit deeper, but I can't promise anything.

Thanks Rasbo Kind of explains the deathly silence then... If I find any or am pointed in the direction of, I'll pass them along for if'nwhen your 4x4 outfitted again.

Rasbo, already doing the Landranger thingy but hoped there might be some not marked and known. Still local knowledge that there are no lanes... is still useful local knowledge I suppose!

cheers guys.
