How many miles??
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:53:34 »
Can anyone tell me what kinda mileage they are getting out of v8 in a series 2?

i put a tenners worth in sunday made it start and gave up as brakes were seized but today took her for a run i got less then 5 miles and the tank is dry luckly i just got back level with my drive when it stopped

i know v8`s are thirsty BUT surely thats not right?? it wouldnt be so bad but the thing has under seat tanks so they arnt too big anyway looks like ill be carrying several jerry cans in it until the disco`s fixed......

ill never moan about the mpg on the disco ever again  :-o

was the tank totally dry when you put that tenner in?
maybe the pickup doesnt reach the bottom of the tank?

i think the worse consumption is when they've just started and are warming up, so 2 starts and a 5 mile run is proberly right, that tenner doesn't fill the tank as much anymore!
i guess its as more energy goes into warming the engine, oil, water up etc.

my advice take off the exhaust and really appreciate your tenners worth!!!
or go tdi as i am

£10 will see you maybe seven to eight litres of petrol.  At lets say 15mpg (typical round town LR petrol engine consumption) you would get between 20 and 25 miles.

If your brakes were seized the other day, then that is probably not helping in the slightest!  A dragging brake causes fuel consumption to increase rapidly.

my advice take off the exhaust and really appreciate your tenners worth!!!
...and then the engine goes flat because of no balancer.

Blimey Keith, I can see your motor going in the "For Sale" section PDQ.  ;)

Oh, another bit of info.  The 3.5 Litre is generally more effecient than the standard 2.25 Litre in the Series motors.  On a run you can quite easily get 20-25mpg whereas the 2.25 would be struggling for 20 under the same conditions.

If you feel that way inclined, I'm sure there would be someone willing to take it off your hands.
