Street racing in Poland
« on: May 24, 2008, 22:10:16 »
Just seen a clip on BBC about Lodz in Poland.
Authorities there  allow street racing on the city ring road once a month. Cars all have to be road legal, with licenced drivers.
The local cops are in favour, and say that accidents in the city are fewer since the racing was allowed.  Drivers have the chance to let off steam on a closed one way circuit. A win win situation, with up to 10,000 spectators at each event.
I wonder if any local authority here would consider the idea?

An interesting theory. We have a problem with the 'street racer' element down here. I don't see any local authority in the UK saying yes, it is just too risky. I always say to them to book a trackday at circuits like Goodwood or Thruxton to get it out of their system. The alternative is picking bits of them out of local tree trunks, something I'm not too keen on, to be honest.

I think it is a really good idea even though i went away from the fast cars a few years ago, but you always get idiots who think they can drive fast but just end up damaging or injuring others.

at least if it was an organised event there would be a lot less and would surely quiten the roads down a bit.

But then the same can be said for the people who drive at 20mph etc. they can be just as bad sometimes.

Used to happen, just google for Birmingham Superprix.

Probably banned now unless all entrants pay £20/Lap to cover eco-weenie tax
Watch out theres a tigger about!
