are the unions on the lift pump tight ? if they draw in air the engine will be hard to start, rev poorly - and likely stall before long, can be quite a bit of smoke too. I had this last weekend when working on fuel lines and forgot to re-tighten the lift pump unions fully.

I get lots of air out when bleeding , and all connections are tight, I am looking at length of stroke of pump today to see if its just not keeping up with demand from engine, have been told pumps have different arms fitted so worth a try, fiddly [ed: naughty] of a thing to get into though!!

Check your fuel pickup tube in your tank coz mine was at a very strange angle and would suck air with 20 odd litres in the tank. Took it off and bent it a bit and now its fine.
I love to get my landy down and dirty

make sure the pipe fittings aint leaking, they look fine, but if the olive has moved or is jiggerd, they weap and let air in, just waddle the lines whilst bleading and have a nose
if you have changed the tank, then make sure the flair on the in and out on the tank aint cracked

it'll be draggin air in on the pipes where they have been disturbed

this problem just wont go away , i am sure that all connections are tight , lift pump seems to be operating ok, well its new and set up ok, still seems to be strugling to keep up with supply to engine though, still running dry after a few mins.
I will be dropping the tanks and having a look at sender , supply pipe next,  [-o<after that , anyone got any matches and a gallon of petrol..................

check all the olives on the plastic lines going into and out of the lift pump and into the filter, you think they are ok, but they do leak without any signs of leaking
also, check the little filter inside the banjo on the leak off pipe on the fuel pump
