v8 on a series 2 gear box

Hi Guys

As in the question above really, Ive got a s2 lightweight an i blew the engine up so i wanted to put a v8 in it out of a rangerover and was wondering what work was involved, whether i will need a conversion plate, need to move engine mounts etc

Yes you will need a conversion plate (pop up on e-bay every now and again). Engine mounts will need moving. Flywheel will need drilling for the Series clutch, there are bulkhead modifications and an exhaust will need making up too. You may also have to change to timing cover and water pump to get a 'short nose' one so that you can retain the recess grill; otherwise you can try and find an old 6-pot gearbox. They have a shorter bell housing and input shaft so that the old 6-pot engine fitted in the LR engine bay. Don't forget the brakes too, most upgrade to the 11 inch LWB setup on the front.

Not easy, do-able cos it's been done a lot and great fun afterwards. You'll have to make sure that you box is upto scratch if you have a heavy right foot and some people find that they can blow Series diff fairly easily too. :)

TBH, I'd either go for a 2.5 in good tune will a few ACR mods or go and get a V8 90  :D

Can't beat the fun side of things with a V8 Series, but if you're doing the work yourself there is a lot involved.  My advice would be to replace the engine in the Lightweight/fix it and then get another Series that already has the conversion done to it.

Yeh it does sound like a lot of work but think of the machine i'll have afterwords,

How difficult would it be jus to put a whole rangeroover lump init gearbox and all? then wont have to worrie about conversion plates etc

Still for bulkhead and exhaust mods to do. You'd also have to mod the tunnel and make up prop shafts.

To be fair I've not seen it done, so the above is my 'guess' :)

yeaah ok, to be onest i think the easyist way to go is another series engine anyone got a 2.25 petrol for sale?

to be honest, if you dont want to go the whole hog of doing a V8, you could always put a V6 essex in there (i say this as mine has one befor i brought it, a steve parker conversion) if you go on the steve parker site it gives you a prety good idea of what needs to be done.
