while you're there, take a look at "The Magazine", the light hearted section, amongst other things, they publish reader letters and a section called "10 things you didn't know"

The "10 things" section on the 3rd Feb:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4201485.stm

had this little nugget posing as fact:
"2. 4x4s (or SUVs to our US readers) are 25% more likely to have accidents than ordinary family cars, according to figures from Churchill Insurance."

They did however 'print' my letter in reply to it:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4222103.stm

(scroll down to the bit headed "YOUR LETTERS MONDAY 31 JANUARY 1140GMT")

In reference to the statistic that 4x4s are 25% more likely to be involved in an accident (10 Things, Saturday). Rather than churning out tired old statistics from a survey taken using a very small cross section, why not look into the research done by Ford and Land Rover which suggest 4x4s are in fact 20% LESS Likely to be involved in an accident. I for one am fed up with the constant vilification of 4x4s, it's just lazy journalism to jump on the bandwagon. (See Times story in internet links.)

Nissan Micra 1.5 diesel, £530 plus with 65%NCD
Range Rover 4.0L V8 with all the toys £376

Obviously a b****y serious road risk with the Rangie then?  an accident looking for somewhere to happen!  Cheshire police were recently quoted (in LRO admitedly) as saying we were amongst thew safest drivers on their roads, because we can see what's happening ahead of us, we tend to take our time, are more considerate, oh yes, and we're not a bunch of b****y idiots either!
