Fuel pump probs !!!!!!
« on: July 20, 2008, 21:30:18 »
Hi there, first disco (200 tdi) and i have messed with the unKnown ! Tried to follow simple instructions on another site, on how to boost the fuel and tubo pres. Its now got no guts and struggles just to move, although the engine sounds as good as before. Have wound in screw (under cover cap) half a turn, then removed 4 screws to get at a rubber diagham (?) this is connected to a plunger which turns but will not come out. This goes through a splined wheel which i have turned clockwise about 6 clicks.

On the turbo side i have shortened the rod by about 5 mm.

Any ideas what ive done wrong or need to do????

Should have left it will alone as it was not bad before.

Thanks.

what way did you turn rubber bit sounds like you turned it way to far or anti clockwise and small screw under cap you should only turn after main adjustment to reduce smoke
just get muddy

My advice would be to put it all back as it was (assuming you marked the starting position) then read the various websites thoroughly. That way you'll have a working car while you make sense of the instructions.

Just held rubber back to turn star wheel but then removed it also to get a better grip on wheel ! Gave the rubber and plunger thingi a good pull !

Have just tried to set back to nornm and is still struggling to move.

If it aint broke dont try and fix it !!!!!!!!

Eventully got the diagham and plunger out, the pin which runs on the plunger is stuck in its hole and not following the plunger so no fuel. Any ideas how to encorage pin out or can i take top of pump off ?? Thanks for any replys.

bit of a fiddly job for you as you look at pump from top you see throotle lever with ten mill nut on it just behind lever on its pivot in the housing is a allen key grub screw. mark posistion of lever to relation of pivot or look closely on lever and you will some degree marks on it note where it is to the slot in the pivot and pull of lever carefull as lever under tension with spring. take out grub screw, spray lots of wd or what ever in back and on pin with a small screw driver jently push pin back out hole it may take a bit of doing. pin sits in a little housing clean it all etc push back to see if it moves freeley if so put all back together
just get muddy
