removing the back pipe and back box of defender 90
« on: July 21, 2008, 21:28:16 »
after my back end met the front end of a polo, my tail pipe is too close to my wheel for my liking, the bracket is bent and ive tred to straighten it up, without results.
if i remove the back pipe so ive only got half the exhaust on will this damage the engine in any way, and will i be breaking the law.

cheers

You can remove it no probs, but it will sound like a tractor!

The sound leaves the pipe near the axle, and bounces arround the rear tub like anything before escaping.

Not sure if it will break any laws, but certainly will not damage the engine.

Mines got no boxes on it at all at the moment.

I had my back box off for a while. I cut the pipe just after the flange and then twisted it round so that it point under rear cross member. Pretty sure this helped vent it underneath.

Unless you have a pick up, the exhuast will no longer be exiting past the passenger compartment, which would fail MOT. Not sure about c&u regs, which is what vosa could pull you over for, but pretty sure otherwise its fine. If a little unrefined!
