What are the good and bad points about vehicle imports anyone?? And what is this SVA stuff??

I might be off to purchase an import to replace the Shogun Sport I had nicked this week
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

Thanks Lads, as always, more questions from the answers :)

I assume you only need the one SVA on original import of the vehicle and then you can have 'normal' MOT's thereafter.

What isnt clear is what documentation you would need if buying an imported vehicle in a private sale.

Does the owner need the original 'pass' for the SVA??
What else needs to be handed over??
Is it the usual V5 from DVLA??

Looks like a bit of a nightmare
