Diesel Dump valve???
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:48:57 »
i have been having discussions with a few of my friends tht dump valves do not make a difference but on the internet certain texts i have red say differently!

firstly can it be done and does it actually make any noise?

and secondly what happens if ur an offroader and u get the thing covered in mud?? will it ruin ur engine or leak mud into it

all opinions welcome, i dont want one of these to be like a boy racer and mak waaaaaaaaaaaktshhhhhhhhh noises everywhere just wondering if an increase in performance is on the cards.

heres the text is this true???
Brand New Universal Dump valve for Turbo Diesel Engines

Will fit ANY DIESEL TURBO CAR

Why do you need a Blow-off Valve (BOV)?

To eliminate compressor surge when changing gears. Excessive back pressure is created when the throttle is closed during gear changes or deceleration, causing turbo cavitation. This is detrimental to the life of your turbocharger, however fitting a BOV will substantially improve this problem. By installing a BOV you will significantly reduce turbo spool up time. You will notice a substantial improvement in response from your turbo between gearshifts. Boost will come on earlier giving an increase in torque at lower RPM.

Flow

The BOV must flow enough to eliminate compressor surge. This helps boost response between gear changes intern reducing wear and possibly a bearing failure in you Turbocharger.

Found these:

It is the syame as a petrol dump valve, in fact it IS a petrol dump valve, but what to do is use a solenoid actuated changeover valve (use an amal valve off a saab 9000 turbo 2.0 16v for this) to switch the vacuum connection of the dump valve between boos pressure and the vacuum from the brake servo. the electronic control i used for this experiment was a potentiometer connected to the throttle spindle, to give a variable voltage output, then make a wee circuit with a diode feeding a cap, with a pull up resistor before a cap, feeding a schmitt trigger. Basically what you want it to do is enegised the valve when and only when you are coming off the throttle more than a threshold. i had it working on my ma`s frontera but she didn`t like the noise, bu i was just testing the idea because in the future i want a turbo diesel car (2.0 16v diesel calibra maybe?)

You can't fit a dump valve to a diesel. The dump valve is there to stop excess pressure building between the throttle flap and the turbine when you suddenly shut the throttle, but guess what? You haven't got a throttle flap therefore you can't have a pressure build up. Even when you lift off, the cylinders still take the same amount of air, they just get less fuel.

Q. Can I fit a dump valve to my turbo diesel?

Diesel engines do not produce vacuum, so a conventional dump valve set up with a simple fitting kit is not possible. Some companies have developed ways into 'tricking' the valve to open with electronics or vacuum canisters

Save your money....

A dump valve will do absolutely nothing for performance (or turbo reliability) on a Turbo Diesel!!!

All you get is clatter, clatter, clatter, whoosh, clatter clatter.....  Rather than just the normal diesel clatter, clatter, clatter.

Glad the people selling it know so much about diesels!!!

back pressure is created when the throttle is closed

Love them to show me where the throttle (blade) is on a Diesel!!!  (and I'm not talking about the blades for the EGR!)  A diesel runs Wide Open Throttle all of the time.

Save your money for a remap if you want more performance.
