Chaps/Chapesses,
Bit of advice required here really, my power steering box leaks which I intend to replace, but my power steering pump has also developed a leak, now the question is, has anyone ever replaced the seal on the pump and was it successful, or am I looking at replacing the pump as well?

My pump had been leaking for a while and as such was on my 'to do' list, but I'd just never got round to it.
When changing the cam belt, a few weeks ago, I decided to have a quick look. On inspection, as well as leaking, the bearings were also completely shagged, so all things considered, replacement seemed the better option.
£125 + vat for a genuine part pump (new not recon) from my local non-francised Land Rover specialist - RK automotive.
I also needed a new water pump, also knackered, but that's another story - so much for saving money changing the cam belt myself (200 tdi 90")

I started to remove the pump today and it appears to be leaking from well inside, started to take the steering box off too, but didn't quite have the size tools required, not to mention the fact that the bolts have seized, think I'm better off getting my local garage guys to do it, by the time I go out and buy new tools, struggle and swear at the damn thing, not to mention the very limited time I have to actually do the job, it may turn out to be more cost effective, after all they charge the same per hour as I charge my clients, so by the time I take time out to do it, I'd still be the same financial wise, only without the grazed knuckles!!!
I did think at one point to hell with it, I'll just sell the 90, but then it sat and looked back at me, so I started it up after putting the pump back on, let the engine get up to temperature (that 2.5 petrol is really quite pleasant), climbed inside and turned on the heater, sat behind the wheel with the furnace blasting out hot air (my heater actually works!), and thought, how could I possibly get rid of the damned thing, I'd miss it way too much!!
Oh, well, better start making some money to pay for the repairs............................................................................................................................................................................................................

Bit the bullet and ordered the parts, £129.95 for the pump delivered from Paddocks and £125 + VAT and Del for the steering box (exchange) from CS Gears, comes witha 12 month warranty which is twice as much as anyone else, my philosophy is the longer the warranty offered, the more trust they have in their product not breaking down!!?? Just waiting for the labour charge now :shock:
