I can not get hold of Graham, so MarkS and myself ( both CRAG and P4X4 mebers) are leaving here in 5 mins to drive down and get him out. It will take about 90 mins to get there. I will take the cam to take some pictures to post when I get back

Thing is, large bits of Strata could bite you if you were solo. It's technically challenging and very remote.

I would suspect the fords - we've had a fair bit of rain recently (Flash weather warnings are out).

If I'd seen this earlier I'd have offered to join Paul on the rescue as it's not too far from me.

Got him out ok. It took 5 3/4 hours round trip.

He got grounded out just off the right track, 3 lines and he chose the middle as the other 2 were flowing like a river. A short winch and he was out.

He got to a phone by WALKING almost the whole length of Strata, must be one of the few to walk and drive, all in the same day .

The problem is that he was just using a map and had never driven it before. There so many tracks now with the mess that some people make. This was not driving off the true line of the ROW, just an honest mistake, but he will not be going out on his own again [-X

I drove the Strata Florida 1st week in August and that looks well off track to me

Tom, the driver, was using a map and was just about 15 FOOT off of the correct line. He made an honest mistake. Where he went wrong there was the river, the route he took and the ROW line all with in about 25 foot. Tom took the line without running water, as the river and the ROW both had running water on them. Looking at the map he took the middle line, but it was the wrong one. But as I said he was only about 15 foot off of the correct line.

The problem with this lane is the fact that lots of "people" have driven off of the correct line of the right of way, there are lots of lines that people can mistake for the right line. GPS helps. But this does not meen the people who drive the river in places have made a mistake as that would be hard to do they just go out to drive the river.

I've done that route a couple of times now, and on some parts it's very hard to work out the proper route. You're often faced by several tracks all of which look equally valid due to the number of people going off piste, which then lead to situations like this.

Might help if we would be allowed to put a few small signs up indicating the proper route, to assist the honest majority in staying legal?

Not really having a go at him, having seen all the "other tracks" I do understand his mistake, and I do agree with what you have stated, (you know and understand the aria etc better than anyone Paul) and at the end of the day theres not many who haven't driven somewhere a little they shouldn't have!

well done for helping him out

If I through he was driving off track I would have not gone to pull him out.

But this one of the reasons its best NOT to go laneing on your own.

Thanks for sorting the pics  I must say, I don't even recognise where he is! I know I don't know Strata very well having only driven it a couple of times, but that is a person with BIG cojones to attempt that on his own! I think I would have turned back if I were in a group never mind alone.

Well done for getting him out, as you all say its easy to make a mistake on some sections of strata, other sections are obvious, and some are blatently created by the lunatic fringe!

An honest mistake that worked out well in the end.
