FIRST POST HERE WITH PICS OF MY NEW BOBTAIL JUST FINISHED
« on: August 21, 2008, 21:43:58 »
Hello all, first post here so i thought i,d post up some pics of my bobtail i,v built as a replacement for my old rotter of a 300tdi disco :)
i rescued this from a scrapyard 9 months ago it was a stolen recovered one and had a pretty good shell as far as discoverys go but i still ended up replacing inner and outer sills, inner wings boot floor etc , shel was then sandblasted before paint and the chassis as you will see i have had galvanised for the bargain price of £110! first few pics are after we started stripping it stilll on the trailer :D

alloy fuel tank is arriving this week..the ready can isnt permanent

cheers :D

My shell is actually pretty good really, but i'd really like it to be Really nice..... and last a bit longer than it will if nothing is done to it..... it's a 98 3dr.... and there is the start of corrosion in places...... there's even a small hole in the chassis right near the front susp arm mount, goodness knows how it got an mot 2 months ago!!

Thanks for the positive comments guys

chris that looks like a really good rebuild :)

still waiting on the fuel tank arriving, and a pair of optima batterys, not sure where to mount them as i have lifted the front of the inner wings to match the angle of the rear of the front inners for tyre clearance (hope that makes sense  )
need to wire up the winches and rear ARB locker,  so a few little jobs left but i have had it out on the road :-# done a couple of miles and it feels reaaly good, hoping to have it mot,d by end of next week and hopefully a shakedown on my local offroadsite before i do drumclog with it next month :)

oh and for anyone thinking this will never get used properly because its so clean underneath.....think again...my last disco was seriously abused...i,v said i wont do the same to this...but body panels are so easy to change...plus i have 8 discos i am breaking so have plenty spares

i have some more build pics i will post up later if anyone is interested :D

OK well if nobody is going to ask the obvious question I'll ask it...

Where did you get the chassis galvanized and what did you have to do to it by way of preparation?

LOL@the little britain pic

the chassis was shotblasted at my local blasters to remove all the paint before taking it for galvanising, it was done at forfar galvanisers, they need the chassis left with them for a couple of days :)

the eagle eyed amongst you will notice the extra strenthening around the rear trailing arm brackets and the 2" box welded to the front to lift the bumper up to match the body lift :D
