Our two boys are called Barnaby Andrew and Oscar Anthony. Our daughter is named Matilda Emily. It took us ages to decide/agree as we wanted quite classic names that weren't too common. We're both very happy with the names we chose for them and they suit them very well. Number four is now on the way and we seem to have exhausted all of the names we liked, maybe we'll call it #4!

Nothing wrong with William.  A "good, strong name", to quote Capt Jack Sparrow, which fits in anywhere from kings to coal miners.  Think of the second in line to the throne, and my grandad, known as Bill, was a miner and proud of it.  My son's called William.

You could call him something like Tarquin :lol:  I named my first RRC after a particularly revolting little brat who was running backwards and forwards in Tesco once, making a total nuisance of himself.  They looked like a bit of a rough family and I think she may have picked the name to make him sound a bit posher.

Unusual names ... hmm.  I came across one family whose eldest daughter was called Mercedes - OK, I thought, the car was originally named after a girl.  Her sister was called Portia :|.  Their younger brother was called - wait for it - Cosworth.  Oh dear   :doh:.  (There was a fourth child, to a different father, called Lauren.)

When my son was born, my ex and I spent hours thinking of names, eventually we settled on a combination of his grandfather's middle names and we came up with Tom Charles, names that we both found acceptable - not only that I knew that both of them were historicaly good family names (Tom is the 3rd person in my family line to carry this name), on my side of the family there have been countless Charles's.

If you want a good strong name that is slightly off beat you could try Knight. A friend of my sister called her lad that, mind you their surname is steel - so it came out as Knight Steel.

We have a Jake Peter, Jake after a character in a Jilly Cooper book I was reading whilst pregnant and Peter was his Grandad's name.

Our youngest is called Lewis Christian, Lewis after the Scottish Island (my Mom is Scottish) and Christian is his dads name.

Well, of the suggestions so far, I do like Ethan and Ewan. Sarah likes Connor and Oscar, but I'm not so sure. Callum is one we both quite like. Has the Scottish connection and is unusual without being silly.

As said before, all names go through phases of being popular and then fall out of favour.

when i was expecting the twins, and before we knew that they would be girls, we thought long and hard about boys names, geoff liked dominic & benedict (but i didn't want to name them after monks that brewed alcohol), we then thought about matthew (after matthew flinders who will mean nothing to you but a lot to south australians!) and then found out it was girls to our relief!

You need to think what the kids at school will change or shorten it to... because they will!

Joseph Nash... Joe Nash... Big Joe... Little Joe... Just Joe!  It works for any age and still sounds traditional and strong!

She wouldn't agree - I wonder if that's why we had girls?

I suggested Isambard, if ours had turned out to be a boy.

She's an Amelia; after the aviator, or that's the story I'll tell her (implying that 'the sky's the limit')

Now we are running into a different problem...... too many suggestions and too much choice  :lol: Thanks though and it hasn't fallen into farce yet, like it usually does at home!

Only about 5 weeks to go. They are planning on inducing 2 weeks early because Sarah's blood sugar levels are all over the place. I'll let you know what name we end up with. After all this, it will probably be a safe 'normal' name  :roll: :lol:

Its also worth thinking about how easy it will be for the kid to learn the spelling of their name, and how teachers will pronounce it.

Hemione for instance, and Catriona are both so mispronounced it must annoy the crap out of them!

I have it a bit with my Daughter who is Ciara, we get "Kara" "Ceeara" and all sorts, whereas its a simple "ceera"

If mine had been a boy then he would have been William George Macfarlane but being a girl is Ciara Louise Macfarlane

I know a Michael Hunt, I was in the leisure centre the other week when a female friend came to me asking if I had seen Mike Hunt as she had been told he was here, I was wetting myself!! (then got a slap from her!) :oops:

I can save you some time on that. I'd suggest that Adolf, Benito, Pol, Idi, Josef may not be good choices.
