Friends reunited
« on: September 25, 2008, 00:52:59 »
Any one here a member?

well I was contacted by a mate at Uni the other day so I decided to flessh out my profile and see who else remembers me.  I looked up some clubs I've been in and there is a Mud Club group, but I suspect it's not us

I think we need to do something about that   who's with me?

I was until.

A guy I went to school with and was mates with got in contact. He came round to my house for a chat etc. I was singe at the time and talked about how I had just split up with my long term girlfriend, he talked about his wife and kids. Nice chat and all that.

Few days later I got a letter of him, he was "Coming out" had been gay forever but got married cos thats what people do and it its expected of him. It was quite sad really.

On the next page however he said how much he had allways fancied me and explained that in quite a lot of detail if you know what I mean.

So NO im not interested in meeting anyone else from my school days.

Good luck!

Meeting old school friends and collegues - NOWAY!

Sorry but just because i went to a 3rd rate public school and I happened to work in the same place as you did doesn't mean I want to be your friend!!!

I've made more good mates, through my hobbies than I have through school or work.

So in answer to your question:

Count me out

I get the odd message, but have never bothered with them...

Get a few old friends contacting me on face book, but to be fair i'm not that bothered.

i have got in touch with more school friends through facebook than friends reunited to be honest.

and thinking about it, do you really want to speak to someone you havent seen by choice mainly for 20 years (in my case)

i remember little of who they were, and so forth

those that i was friends with genuinely i am still friends with and see each other bout twice a year (distance is a problem)

My days at school were not the 'best days of my life' as is often said by whimsical writers!
It was a school that was very much geared towards 'Oxbridge' then office or city based jobs. I wanted careers advice on being a boat builder, and all I got was the offer of work experience in a solicitors office. That really helped with my life!
I don't honestly think that I would have anything in common with most of the people I knew anyway. I did have a look at some of the profiles of the guys in my class, and I was not surprised to see that virtually all of them had stayed within a 20 mile radius of the town we were in, living average lives, with average wives, 2.5 kids, a rep wagon on the drive etc etc etc.
Don't get me wrong, that is their choice and if they are happy with that, good luck to them.
The other problem is that with the job that I do, people will say one of the following phrases:
1)"Oh really? I must go now"
2)"have you been in lots of chases. I bet thats why you do it"
3)"'a friend' got caught speeding, and how would this friend get off it?"
4) "I bet you only put the lights on when you are going back for dinner"

Hence no school reunions for me, as the use of the phrase "<edit> off!" tends to offend!

I'll stick with friends I've made through my life. They know me and how I think.

Same here, but it's perhaps 6 times a year, & we've known each other since our first day at nursery (we're both now 42)

Yep!

Tish, pish and tosh, my lovely! I tend not to put them on down here, coz no [!Expletive Deleted!] takes any notice anyway! Only joking for all you Hants residents. You all do your best to get out of the way as 'The grAy Team' ( which is what my oppo and I are now known as ) are doing our thing! Hi Ho Silver (grey, badger streaks) Away!
For all those trying to catch Police cars parking on double yellows, you won't get us, as we have a blue badge!
I'm going on a course on Tuesday on how to use a zimmer frame as an offensive weapon.
Wednesday is being taken up by the 'Tactical Communications for the Older Officer' Course. The pre-reads are good. Apparently the main way to disarm a violent suspect is to talk loudly about how things aren't the same as when we were young, that no one has respect anymore, and did you know you can get those nice barley sugar twists in the sweet shop down the High Street? you know the one, the one next to the wool shop that sells sugar mice with real string tails. Anyway, where did I put my stick? Eeeh, the summer isn't as long as it was during the war.

I keep in contact with a few of my secondary school friends but most lost torch with, however couple of years back someone decided to do a reunion so went along. It was OK but before long the back stabbing, bullying started even a fight as people started to settle old sorces so just left with the group always had been friendly with.

Then quiet by chance someone organised a class reunion for my primary school year at my old primary school so went to that as we were all split up after we left at 11. And it was quite pleasent to see people who not seen for over 30 years, we all talked and got on with each other as if we just left school all those years ago, after all we were all together for 7 years.

The main reason I don't stay intouch with people I grew up with is embarrassment

I go home to Manchester to see my mum and other family then go to the pub with My brother or Dad and I am embarrassed because as said by LSP. they are all the same people in the same place wearing the same cloths having the same conversation every day for the last 20 years since I left . who hit who  , football  knock off fags  sovereign rings  and my fave... wot do you mean you only have two kids
they all seem happy enough going nowhere ..but not me [-X

as soon as I had the funds I got out

I don't bother going out any more when I go back there as I am embarrassed to stand in a pub with a group of middle aged men wearing track suits and baseball caps on a Saturday night in the pub..there is no pride or go in any of them they just seem happy to sponge off the state until retirement and they expect everything for nothing...

To be honest I've met far more friends since I joined Powys 4x4 Response and started laning than I ever did in school. I was always the unpopular one and targeted by one particularly cunning bully (the sort that will always make sure your punch is what the teachers see rather than their stabbing you with a compass). That complete  :-# is now a merchant banker which I think says it all about that industry - being an arrogant unpleasant git is no barrier evidently...

I did manage to give one of the lesser nuisances from those days a brown trousers moment when he was stupid enough to accept a lift from a man whose life he'd made hell for seven years. Amazing how the bravado disappears when they encounter Disco handling. Oddly enough he won't go anywhere near me now!

I must say, friends reunited is not for me. I did look at it but none of the ones I knew at school are there  probably because like me they hated Glasgow and got the hell out!!

Coming back to the police bit and sirens? While out in the States earlier this year, we got talking to my then 7 yearold about how to get hold of the police if she needed them?? She replied that she would jst head to the nearest doughnut shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
