Get underneath and check the drum.. if it'sleaking oil the prblem is your oil seal in the transfer box... it'll mean new pads and plenty of brake cleaner on the drum.

All the best...

If you don't have oil in the drum then it might just need adjusting.

If it failed suddenly then it could be a snapped cable.

If you do it yourself I think its about £50 total. Get some new prop bolts and nuts for refitting while the handbrake drum is off.

You might need to remove the central console to reset the rachet mechanism, if the handle is pulled too far up the lever of the rachet flips over and when you lower the lever it fails to engage as it should.

Good luck, Dan

yep! it got worse and worse after every time i went off roading it did hold on the last click but now it dont! :(
the haynes manual says
"from under the car rotate the adjuster anti clockwise on the rear of the handbrake assembly untill both shoes are full expanded against the drum"
then i take it you slacken it off a bit and job done?

Apart from being hidden under the middle of a vehicle, the land rover drum brake is one of the best drum brakes I've ever come across for work on. If it hasn't recived any atention in a long while, combined with plenty of mud, then its probably a good time to get aquanted with it and give it some TLC.

The first time may take a while to service one, but once you know what you looking at its pretty straight forward, unlike some drum brakes which even with experiance are expletives to work on.

I did mine on the 110 a couple of weeks ago and its now great holds on the 2nd click

It was a pain in the backside to strip though as I don't think it's been apart since 1987...

Best of luck  [-o<
Hit it till it breaks then hit it some more !
