Mate the same happened to me,when you have been wading the water has got in and washed all the grease out you will have none in there, its strip down time as ford water isnt a good lubricant. The clunking is your cv joint i didnt belive it either when i was told but you should have seen what came out,i was stunned.Any way all i did was to strip everything out and re grease it and its as good as new, maybe even better.

All most definatly mate obiviously im not there to see/feel but i refused to belive it as i couldnt get my head round how the grease stopped all that vibration clunking. My symptoms were the wheel felt like it was going to come of when turning it would go tight, clunck smooth, clunck, tight and so on in a straight line it all stopped but the bearings would squeal. To save yourself time and just to see if im right loosen the 6 8mm bolts that hold the rubber seal to the back of the swivel housing and watch the water come out followed by gritty grey sludge,if you need some pointers on how to remove the whole lot quickly so you can do it all in your garage in the warm just ask, best of luck mate.

Marmite mate,
firstly can i ask why you went round the mini island?  Normally you just go over things!

secondly, its more than likely you dragged up a 2nd world war mine out of the Davy Jones locker, the depth you was going through at the weekend!  did you not pick anything up on the sonar?

Give us a bell mate, i can only presume from this post that you are chickening out of doing Elford?

cheers
Jase

I would guess either a CV joint or your wheel bearing is seriously on the way out and has collapsed. Easy way to tell - jack the wheel up and try to wobble it.

the very same thing happend to my 90 i had, water got into the handbrake drum,it had partially seized the little sliders that operate the shoes, and the shoes were chattering on the drum, making it feel like something was seriously wrong, when all i done was took the sliders out grease them up,and it was ok,if you get underneath, and try and turn the drum on the free play, and see if it is dargging a bit.
