my vehicle moves under acceleration!
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:28:48 »
Hi all

Not really sure how you would describe this? I have been noticing fairly alarming change of direction when i stick my foot on the throttle! By which i mean the vehicle turns left slightly as i accelerate and back right again when i lift off! I assume this is becuase of the way the axle linkages are loading up?

My thoughts where a frame ball joint or bushes but they don't seem worn. There is definately some wear in one of the trailing link bushes (axle end). Could this cause it?

Anybody got suggestions?

Nick

Hi Nick

I would check the Panhard rod bushes first

These are either end of the arm that is across the front of the axle

and is attached to the axle and the chassis

I had a similar thing when my trailing arm bushes had gone

You've alreadt noticed the play inthe trailing arm bush, well that's the culprit.  Because of how the rear suspension works any play in those bushes is amplified creating the rear wheel steering you have been experiencing.
