« on: December 10, 2008, 16:21:06 »
can anybody tell me if the pistons on the 19j 2.5td are the same size as these RTC6442 i am sure they have the same bore and the same cut outs in the top is there any other differance as i think this part number is from the previouse engine to the 19j

i think 200 and 300 have a circle cutt out and the td has a v but im not sure about the engine before that but they are all as you say the same bore size  but is there any differance in length ?

2.25 & 2.5 N/A and TD engines have a 'V' in the crown and 200/300TDi's have a round recess in it. In the TDi engines, the combustion happens in the piston crown, whereas the others have the combustion occur above it. I think that if you put a TD piston (for instance), in a TDi engine - compression will be rubbish. If you did the reverse, then the engine won't turn - that is until all 4 conrods have bent! :)

300TDi std pistons - ERR2410
200TDi std pistons - ERR1390 or ERR1391
2.5TD std pistons - ETC8670S or ETC8676
2.5N/A std pistons - RTC6442S

i know the differance between td and tdi pistons but td and NA pistons look the same. i have heard that the early td was the same as an NA but whith a turbo added so the pistons should be the same. i was thinking of bying a set of new NA pistons for £10 of sombody whitch is much cheaper than £150 for a set of td pistons from paddocks but will they fit i know the bore size is the same.
