Help with P38 4.6
« on: December 12, 2008, 10:03:21 »
Story goes like this.

Driving up a slight incline on the motorway heard a floppy noise and loses all power.

Engine starts and just about runs but only on a couple if 3 cylinders and lots of popping down plenum chamber.

Occasionally you can hear a loud clang but this has only happened twice.

I suspect cam chain or a gear has slipped and am really looking for al little info i.e. how much of sod is it to get the front cover off and is it a huge job.

Thanks in advance

im just guessing here mate, but the clang you described,im thinking it could be the flywheel and flex plate braking up,thats the clanging noise ive heard before, and the bad running could well be the crank sensor being hit by either a piece of something broken off,i have had this happen in the garage i work at with other makes of cars, also if something is braking up,you can get metal swarf stick to the sensor, obviously because its magnetic, and then the sensor wont do its job, hense the bad running, hope this may help you mate, jim :-k
