Disco doesnt like cold

In the cold my mates disco doesnt want to start.
Lot iof smoke on start up whaen it does start.
When it does get going it wont rev over 2400 RPM until warm.
Once warm it has no problems.

Any help much appreciated as it is driving me mad
300tdi, southdown snorkle, tubular bumper, tds winch with dyneema, tree sliders, 6 spotlights, creepy crawler tyres, 2" lift, dislocation cones, dropped mounts all round, wide angle propshafts, mud dash, bucket seats

Well i never new that ^^^^ that would explain why someone i know has trouble in the mornings just lately ;)

Some red is delivered as white and the dye added at POS.  But I would ask if the glow plugs are ok? I doubt the temp of the tank full of derv would rise that much in the space of an hour TBH.
