transfer box swap
« on: December 20, 2008, 18:47:54 »
Hi there, tried to remove the transfer box from a Disco1 200 K reg today but could not split it from the gearbox.

Is it possible to remove whilst still in the vehicle or do I have to remove the gearbox as well? Haynes manual says it should be in Low box and Diff Locked and removed complete.       8-[

Cheers

There arew a combination of bolts and studs, you might have missed some, plus it should be sealed with silicone goo tot he back of the box.  You can split them in situ if you drop the gearbox a bit to clear the floor.

Don't know why it has to be in low box difflock unless that's to get the linkage int he right place when you reinstall.  Of course those linkages need taking off as the lever sits on the gearbox.

This is part of a 2-part thread on replacing the gearbox on a Disco by removing the transfer case seperately. Not all of it may be relevant, but it should help.
