Dealer Enquiry - Clutch Change!
« on: December 23, 2008, 11:15:30 »
The clutch is on its way out on my 90..

Ive been quoted £500 to do the job by Rogers Of Bedford which is what I was expecting really.

Dont have the time or the space to do it myself.

I thought I would ring Landrover in Bedford up to see what they would charge - Exactly the same, £500 fitted including VAT.

What was extremely funny was the person who worked for 'Service' that helped me.

I called up to ask about the clutch change. She asked for some details, then asked me if i knew what type it was - I assumed that she was up on her knowledge of Defender gearboxes, and replied : yes, its an R380 Box.

She accepted that, and when of to get a quote.

She came back on the phone with a problem - Im sorry Sir, I cannot locate your vehicle can I check the registration... You gave me Romeo 380 Bravo Oscar Xray!

I think I actually laughed outloud!

Its probably not as funny now, but it really tickeled me at the time!

I need it doing in a day and it will probably need doing at the drop of a hat!

Plus I need it doing in Bedford, as I can drop it off there and get a courtesy car for the day to go to work

The £500 sounds a little exspensive, i had a P38 diesel and it had a complete clutch fitted, vat etc for just under £400.

I thought a defender would be cheaper. (yes it was a genuine clutch)

ROFLMFAO

I would expect around £400 TBH, dont forget to have your clutch fork strengthened while you are having it done, 10mm of weld will do it fine
