Disco 200 TDI radiator same as Defender 200 TDI ?
« on: January 02, 2009, 10:15:36 »
Hi,

Just wondered if a Disco 200 TDI rad is the same as in the Defender 200 TDI ?

I'm swapping my 2,5 NA for a ex-Disco 200 TDI (including the Disco rad)
In order to get the rad connected I can:

A) buy the great looking radiatorhose conversion kit from Steve Parker.
B) just buy the upper and lower hoses for a Defender 200 TDi setup from Paddocks.

Option B is a lot cheaper but the hoses will only fit if the rad is the same....

Thanks !
Edwin.
If it aint leaking, it soon will !

hi
i think the rads might be the same, but i did this conversion last year and thought the same, but it doesnt work as the engine sits further back than the original so the hoses aren't long enough  i also bought the pipe kit off steve parker but to be honest i wasn't very impressed with it as after paying all that money for it you still have to chop and carve at the pipes he gives you to make them fit  but thats just my opinion :D
hope this helps.

Theres some conversion kits on ebay that don't seem badly priced compared to the one you mentioned - they seem quite popular on one of the other forums and they come with silicone hoses
R reg 3.9 Discovery on LPG - pretty standard at mo.

hi if you use the discovery radiator you will also need to cut and lower the bottom mounting brackets as the rad will sit too high

As for the Disco engine sitting further back in a Defender compared to the way it does in a Disco, that's correct.
Disco hoses will indeed be to short to reach the rad and intercooler.

But am I wrong in thinking that there is no difference in the way an ex-Disco engine sits in the engine bay compared to the way an original 200 TDI engine does in a Defender ?

Therefore shouldn't  the ORIGINAL DEFENDER 200 tdi water hoses fit (and be long enough) a retro fitted Disco lump ?

Thanks !

hi
no because the defender and disco have different water inlet/outlet locations so defender hoses wont match up with disco engine,
cheers

Even better, so I get to keep the waterhoses that are on the 2,5 NA engine !
Saves me a lot of cash.

I did however order Steve Parkers exhaust downpipe and intercooler hoses....I need to get the job done before the summer you see... :D

Thanks all for helping out !

Cheers,
Edwin
