Non standard carb

Today I wewnt to college and found myself coming home with a bag that was alot heavier and a wallet no lighter. I was given a twin choke weber carb for free. :dance: Now, I have the ID No. 32 DRT/100 and it's off a 1.7 renault 5. I was told that it should give me more power over standard and I wanted to fit it just because it had the words twin, and Weber 8-[. So, what I was wandering is...
A: Will this really give me more power?
B: Is this in the right section
C: Does anybody have any info on this carb including what input/output connects to what and so on?
D: Anybody ever used a non standard carb on the standard engine?
E: If all tick the boxes, how hard is it and is it really worth it? (I'm pretty nifty in the bracket making and bodging department)

I've all ways ran twin choke webbers on my landys, the stock carbs are rubbish.
Does the carb look like this one?

I run a K & N filter with the webber, seems to run better than the stock oil bath filter jobbie.

And if im out playing in muck i slip a Honda CR125 foam air filter over the K & N to keep the crud out.
It works a treat  ;)

The foam filter is from a 2003 Honda CR125 mx bike. It's like it was made for the job.

This webber is fitted to my LWT.
You will need the spacer block jobbie to fit your webber to the manifold.

No, it doesn't look like that I'm afraid, I will need to fab up some sort of bracket becuase the bolt holes on the bottm are 4 where as the standard series, as we know are 2 and the air filter will need to have  something made up becuase it has 3 holes that are in a shape of an unequalatral triangle.. I'll get pics up some point today. Thanks anyway!

The Webber will require a specialist to set it up for your engine.   Ebay would be the best place for it.

Get one of the SU carbs if you want to have a bigger carb.

Thats going to be mega hassle fella.
I came across an advert the other day, and some shop was selling brand new webbers for £75....but i cant remember
what dealer iot was??......Bu@@er!

Hi.
Any carb is better then the 34ICH on a series engine IMHO. but ypu have gone a step closer by getting the idea for a twin choke weber. Now a quick bolt on will be the 32 / 34 DMTL as fitted to early 2.25 and 2.5 petrol nineties, that came in the first couple of years of production. This carb will help give you a bit more poke and maybe a wee bit more economy as it is a bit more complex then the usual solex, zenith and weber that most 2.25's are fitted with.

Paddocks are doing the Webber kit's for £75, well worth it. Fitted one to my brothers series 3 out here in Australia & it runs so much better.  :D

Since when is a 34ICH a twin choke weber? The *made to fit many engine....(badly)* 34ICH (which is single choke) is a renowned for being an awful carb for a Series with is carb freezing, bad jetting to be lean to get its 'economic label'. The stock genuine zenith in a serviced condition is much better. A lot of people replace a worn out. warped, knackered zenith with a 34ICH and get a miracle change in performance when in fact standing there pouring fuel from a can directly into the manifold would have been an improvement over their old carb. But the argument about the 34ICH and the Zenith is age old and all over the internets with no clear out come other than 34ICH sux  :dance:

If the original poster finds he has any hope of mating that carb to the engine he'd better also see if it can be jetted for the engine to get it into the right ball park for running.

I have two 34ICH's in the shed. And that is where they shall be staying.  [-X   When my old zenith started to play up i went out spent the money on a new zenith and so far it has run lovely, coupled with a K&N it is a good setup. Pulls well, revs freely with a good pickup.
Search the web, ask the old sage and the weber will always bring up the same probs. Icing and running the engine lean.

I love it when they phrase it as an economy carb.   :doh:    IT IS A LAND ROVER....  If you want economy go buy a small car! Either way it's going to drink a gallon of petrol every 18 miles on average.

Ran the Webber 34ICH for years, mu only gripe was the "frosting" in the winter. 

Now running an SU HS6.......  if you got the money get one  :lol: available as a kit from ACR

Also ran a 34ICH - never had any frosting problem despite living in the depths of the welsh mountains. Put it down to the kenlowe fan not providing excessive cooling.

Coupled with an ACR stage 2 head, regularly got my old lwb s3 up to 85mph, so not trouble with fueling either.

Still, the t'interweb says that the Zenith is better.

Well i do have a HIF 44 in the shed, nestled up to a 32 DMTL that needs a rebuild. Just trying to find the appropriate manifold to bolt the SU on.

I binned that 'orrible 34ICH in favour of a Zenith copy.  Much improved performance throughout the rev range, particularly at the top end.  But, it seems the Zenith isn't particularly keen on steep sideslopes to the right, I've had my engine almost die several times and it always appears to be from flooding at that angle.  Don't suppose it's down to the float would it?

Coupled with an ACR stage 2 head, regularly got my old lwb s3 up to 85mph, so not trouble with fueling either.
Why not try it with the Zenith if you can?  Might make it go even better!  Or better yet, an SU!  :cool:

my old series had a zenith carb which was alot better for power than the webber carb, but the webber was better for fuel.
if anyone is intrested my friend has a su carb (powerplus) and a four branch manifold for sale.

S3 died over a year ago. Engine popped a valve a couple of year before that.

I replaced an old Weber with a new Zenith copy on my 1963 S2A last year just to see if all the t'interweb hype was true. Honestly can't say I noticed a shred of difference. I'm sure someone will tell me it's down to being badly tuned, but I'm still getting 20+mpg and I can still 'cruise' at 60mph comfortably.

running a zenith without a overdrive i was seeing 80mph+. i never worked out the mpg, but it was not good, i doing about the same as a v8.
