I'm not surprised by this at all. I really feel sorry for this woman, who no doubt was up against some highly skilled barrister, who was able to twist everything that she said.
Its been the same for Police witnessses for years. If Police officers give accounts of an incident that all attended at, we 'got together and made it all up'.
It is a real shame as it destroys all faith in the system.
I recall the days when people who were arrested for disorder offences where kept in the cells overnight and put before the court, so the magistrates could see them in all their 'glory' from the night before, not several months down the line when they are all nicely polished up.
It does make me wonder why I carry on with my job, when I see the decent law abiding people let down time and time again, and the criminals walk away with a smirk on their faces.
