they lost me o alot of the tenical stuff so I asked when Idid not no what they were talking about, What supprised me is that you would not of expected these two to of been obsessed (according to there husbands) with landrovers, it is so good to meat pepole from diferent paths in life that plesently supprise you, one of these ladies had three other landrovers series 1a series 11a and an ambulance landrover all tax exempt, she is now looking for a 88" the predesessor to the series

erm...it IS a series
88 started as series 1 - then 2 -then 2a - then 3 - then 90 then defender (the latter 2 on a longer chassis and coil sprung) the series 1 had a 80 - then 86 then 88 inch chassis ( i stand to be corected on the S1 chassis variations) and came with a 1.6 - 2.0 and 2.25 engine in Petrol only - the diesel didnt appear till the 2a.

There are some decent ones. We met a few when we were up in The Lakes a few years ago. They seemed amused as we crawled along the Walna Scar Road, and applauded as we got through a narrow bit that nearly shaved paint of the Disco.
They were also suitably annoyed when we showed them the two carrier bags full of kendal mint cake and energy bar wrappers, plus other crud that we had picked up on the way.
Saying that, I have seen some 4x4 users driving like complete cocks on Salisbury Plain.
C'est la vie!
