I dont get this!
Go to Land Rover, they say there is 1 starter motor and its a RTC6061 and is 1.4 KW.
Go to paddocks, they say the same!
Go to both me local motor factors and they both have 2 different types in!!! A 1.4 KW and a 1.7 KW
So i get the one thats in stock which turns out to be the 1.7 kw, put it in and me electrics start smoking when its connected up!
So am currently guessing that mine might be the 1.4!
Question is, what motor does the 1.7 kw one fit????

Err, I'd guess as above but why should the electrics be smoking? what bit?
the starter has it's own solenoid, however the soenoid earht throught the motor itself so potentially drawing more current, however there should be a starter relay in the car too, somewhere (mine is under the bonnet).
Check the motor itself is ok by using a jumping wire to the motor.
Other possibilities include the DII or Soft Dash RRC which had the intermediate serpentine V8.

Well the replacement one will be at Partco for 3pm, and so will be fitted at around 4pm lol, so hopefully no smoke this time!
The negative lead on the battery was sparking when we connected it and was smoking, and there was smoke coming from the starter, but there was no ignition on or anything!

that sounds like a short; 0.3 amps would not make that much difference that fast; are you sure it was connected the right way?

There is only 1 way to connect it, both rings on the front and the earth off the blade! lol

I didnt, a friendly local mechanic did outside me house! lol, and we found the problem with the smoke! lol, there was an earth wire unaccounted for which was hidden when we fitted one last night that was connected to one of the bolts holding the starter in place!
So it now works and i am very very happy :D lol
