Tyre slime!

I have a slow puncture on one of my tyres...... a good excuse to get some tyre slime! Has any one used this stuff if so what make is the best? which works the best etc

im gonna be honest with you mate,i personally would never use any of it,ive been a tyre fitter for ten years,you can have trouble with balancing them,they dont always work,sometimes the tyre goes down and you cant find the hole when you take the tyre off,and some off them corrode the wheels inside bad :(

Tyre fitters hate the stuff because of the mess.

I have used it, can't remember the brand (tyre slime is a brand name) since I was getting punctures almost weekly.  It does work but to do 4 big tyres will cost £40.

Just get your local tyre place to stick a tube in it mate, or it might be mud in the bead. Get them to take it off the rim and clean the bead and reinflate, it might cure it.

Thats a good Idea JD, But I would like to have the extra cover for when I'm camping in the middle of nowhere.

as far as the balancing goes JIMBOBLY  the stuff I have found claims no to affect it

As far as I'm aware, if you were to put in the foam and there was still a puncture for instance, a nail or pin that's not visible at the moment, then they wouldn't be able to repair the tyre, they would have to replace it. All to do with legal paper work and such :roll: just take it to your local tyre place and ask them to have a look for you. as mentioned before, it could be a bad seal or they will just fit a mushroom patch.

the best way by far mate,is to either have the tyre repaired,or if it is the rim leaking,then a bead sealing paste that stays wet,not go off like silicone some people use is the best way possible,another thing that happens with tyres that have the slime in is,hot tyre on the outside,wet cool paste on the inside,BANG

I agree with jimbobly about the slime horrible stuff in tyres and no matter what people or adverts say you cannot balance awheel/tyre combination that is full of a slimey liquid because it just will not work.Having been a tyre fitter for the past 17years i have seen the adverts as used by the police which is a lie because i fit tyres for 2 police forces and none of them use it.

Now that's just alarmist tosh.  Why would it be cool if its on the inside of a hot tyre?  It just heats along with the tyre, same as the air, wheel etc. would.

Tis messy though when time comes to change, and no cure for leaking beads which is pretty likely on Range  Rovers.

I agree the rims are a likely culprit so start with them.  Can't say either way on the slime, I thought about buying some as I don't carry a spare (LPG tank) but IIRC you can't put it into a tyre that already leaks.

I carry a can of instant fix though, if the situation calls for it I'll use it.

I used some left over tyre slim from doing tractor tyres in a set of BFG muds, the slime sorted out a very slow puncture in one of them (suspect rim seal) and I reseated another to stop a quicker slow puncture. After a while though this set of tyres caused noticeable vibrations while driving, which I suspect is the slim settling at the bottom (the tyres wern't in regulare use). The tyres are still drivable with, but they amplified any problems like swivel pins with insifficent preload.

Since then I've only had one other set of tubless tyres on my 'off roader' and haven't bothered to slime them, they don't require any more imblancing.

I have to say this im my oponion DONT USE IT it can cost you more than a repared puncture if you catch my drift

It seems like the overall consensus is negative, and after thinking about it I'm not convinced that you can balance a tyre with a gel/liquid in it. I think I will try and find a good tyre fitter and get it sorted that way...... now where do you find one of those!
