have been reading some mags recently where there are advertised such things as rest of world spec discoverys etc for sale but not over here as they are rest of world spec and not suitable for us, what is so different about rest of world spec?

Something tells me that it will be "they get more for less cash" it usually is.

with discos its usually bigger engines (petrol) and styling

with defenders... compare the NAS spec defender to one from the uk

mainly lighs are changed. visually

they have to do loads of stuff to get LR's into USA, emision and stuff are regulated hard on imported cars

yea i know NAS stuf is different but my question is why cant they sell it s/h to us ? things like the G4 stuff that apparently can only be sold for export?

There are a few factors which mean that a vehicle destined for certain countries can't be used in others.

Some of these inclued :

Lighting
Emissions
Roll-Over Protection
Impact Protection
Tyre Specifications


Then, you have all the other items which aren't regulatory but are different, such as :

Cooling Systems
Steering Wheel Position
ICE Levels
Trim Levels


In reality, most specs of vehicles *can* be converted for use in most countries, but it can be an expensive and complicated process and as such, most people never bother :-)
