Readers of land rover owners international misinformation
« on: February 28, 2009, 21:57:17 »
Not sure if i posted tis in the right area sorry if i havent
This was posted on another forum i us and have been asked to pass it on
In this months LROi is a Greenlaning Handbook with 20 of the' Best Greenlanes' in the UK in it

Number 5 is based on an area of the Somerset Wetlands, including SSSI's and nature reserves.

All bar three of the routes marked are private access routes to pasture - the three that aren't are tarmaced public roads.

All these private routes are dead ends with no turning points; they are bounded by very deep drainage ditches, built from clay over willow bundles. They are called summer droves - the name gives it away

Driving droves that are NOT marked as UCR's and are not on the county definative map is illegal

The local RoW offices form Somerset County Council has been informed as have the land owners - they are not happy bunnies

Illegal use will result in the loss of the offenders vehicle and some big fines!

Please post this on other forums if not already done so

NO IT IS TRUE, COMES FROM THE LOCAL GLASS REP.

Seems also to be a problem in Norfolk over their "recommendation" of the Peddars Way.

The 'Holmfirth' route or at least parts of it were closed due to construction work the last time we went up there, and according to guys involved in the work they wouldn't be reopening the lanes to vehicles due to missuse in the area. Don't know the latest as haven't been up there this year yet.

I had a look at the LRO site earlier, there was nothing about this on their homepage. IMO they should have a large banner warning people about these errors.

There are a few threads in their forum, one of which includes the suggestion that it's up to the driver to check legality. While I agree, I feel that it's still out of order for a publication of any sort to print incorrect information and then apparently not do anything about it. It's too late to recall the booklets but they could still put a warning on their site and in the next issue.
